Wheel Powder Coating, Done Right

Wheels take a beating — curbs, brake dust, road grime and summer heat. Powder coating a wheel right means stripping the old finish, blasting the wheel clean, repairing curb rash and corrosion, then coating and curing it for a tough, even finish that resists chips and brake dust better than paint. We remove the tires first so the whole wheel — face, barrel and inside — gets prepped and coated properly. From a daily driver set to a set of show wheels, the process is the same. Call us for a quote — same-day quotes may be available.

Why This Matters Here

Wheels around The Woodlands and North Houston face real conditions. Brake dust bakes onto wheels in the summer heat, and stop-and-go traffic on the I-45 corridor cooks that dust into the finish. Road grime, heavy rain and the salt air blown in from the Gulf during storm season all work at bare and chipped aluminum. Curb rash from curbs in parking lots and driveways chips the coating and lets corrosion start, and boat trailers towed to Lake Conroe and Lake Houston go in and out of the water and rust fast at the fenders and hubs.

A powder coated wheel seals that aluminum or steel off and resists the brake dust, grime and curb hits that wreck a painted finish. Practical care helps: clean coated wheels with a pH-neutral wheel cleaner and a soft brush, don't let brake dust bake on, and touch up curb rash before corrosion spreads under the finish. Keep an eye on boat trailer hubs and re-coat rust spots early. General guidance only — we'll tailor it to your wheels.

Is this the right fit? The right method is decided after we see the wheel or part. Some items may not suit powder coating — thin sheet metal, plastic and certain cast wheels may need a different approach, and parts with lead paint need special handling. Send photos and we'll tell you straight.

Cost to Powder Coat Wheels

What drives the cost of powder coating wheels? Wheel size, condition (curb rash and corrosion take more prep), the finish (standard single stage costs less than two-stage), the number of colors, and whether tires have to be removed and remounted. A set of four clean wheels in a single stage costs less than a set of heavy-damaged wheels in a prismatic finish. We give you a real number after we see them.

Wheel Finishes

Popular wheel finishes include gloss black, satin, bronze, gunmetal, candy, and prismatic color-shift and candy-style finishes that change with the light. Chrome-look powder gives a bright, reflective finish — but it's a chrome-effect powder finish, not real chrome plating. It looks the part, resists corrosion better than most paint, and goes on and cures like any other powder. Two-stage finishes (base plus clear or color) cost more because they take an extra coat and cure cycle.

Car Frame Sandblasting & Classic Car Restoration

For classic car restoration, we handle the blasting and coating side — car frame sandblasting, chassis and suspension parts, brackets and wheel refinishing. We blast a stripped frame down to bare steel so it's clean and rust-free, then coat it to seal it against the humidity that rusts project cars sitting in Houston-area garages. We work alongside owners and car restoration shops on frames, suspension, brackets and wheels. We're not a full car restoration shop — we do the blasting and coating part, and we're happy to coordinate with the shop doing the rest.

Wheel & Auto Powder Coating FAQs

How long does it take to powder coat wheels?

Most wheel sets take a few business days, but the real turnaround depends on condition, finish and our schedule. Wheels with heavy curb rash or old coating take longer because they have to be stripped and repaired first, and two-stage or prismatic finishes take an extra cure cycle. Send photos and we'll give you a real timeframe with your quote.

Can you powder coat wheels with the tires on?

No. Tires have to be removed before coating so the whole wheel — including the barrel — can be cleaned, blasted, coated and cured properly. Curing needs an oven, and a tire can't go through that. We arrange tire removal and remounting as part of the job; tell us if you need it.

Is powder coat better than paint for wheels?

For most wheels, yes. A cured powder coat is thicker and tougher than paint and resists brake dust, curbs, road grime and heat better, which matters in our summer heat and stop-and-go traffic. Paint is fine for a quick fix or a budget color, but powder coat lasts longer on wheels that see real use. We'll tell you which fits your wheels.
